Pininfarina had a go at rebodying the Merc W109 and W186 with these results:

I'd say they went 1 for 2. The Adenauer is gorgeous.

I see some S2/S3 Continental in the W186, and a lot of Camargue in the 109 (which makes sense)

The bottom one, W109, looks at least 10 years ahead of the model it’s based on. I’m guessing it was
incredibly advanced for the time.

There’s a story that the W109 (it was commissioned by a D
utch buyer) was seen in Pininfarina’s factory by the boss of RR at the time and that the similarity to the Camargue is no accident.

Maybe so, but the family of the owner didn’t like it (apparently exhaust fumes got in) and it’s been criticised for its styling ever since.
It’s still around.

I can believe it. I actually kind of like the Camargue in a weird way.
For that one off, other than the grille, there’s no apparent MB visible other than the obvious wipers.

I’ve never liked that W109 boxy SEC looking thing. I like some more curves, it’s not a damn Volvo!
